Three months to go until one of the important compliance dates for healthy homes takes effect! From 1 July 2021, private landlords must have their properties up to scratch with the healthy homes standards within 90 days of any new, or renewed tenancy. Rest assured, we are working hard to make sure all our owners comply by the deadline.
For landlords, this means if you sign a new tenancy agreement on or after 1 July 2021 (doesn’t matter if it’s fixed term or periodic), you have 90 days to get your property in line with all five of the healthy homes standards. At the end of the 90 days, if your property is not compliant then you will likely be in breach of the law.
If you stay in the same tenancy agreement for the next few years (you don’t enter a new tenancy or renew), you will nevertheless need to meet the healthy homes standards by 1 July 2024. This is the date that all rental homes have to comply (unless an exemption applies).
